COVID-19 continues to be a rapidly evolving situation both globally, within the City of Pittsfield, and in the Berkshires. As I indicated during yesterday’s press conference, the city’s action plan would be adjusted as necessary. In recognition of these highly fluid circumstances, and with much thought, discussion, and consideration, the Pittsfield Public Schools will be closed from the end of business, today, Friday, March 13 through Monday, March 30 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The closure includes all PPS students at all 12 schools, all off-site programs and, and all day (non-residential) special education programs. This was not an easy decision to make as it has a tremendous impact on our community. However, the health and well-being of our students, teachers, and their families is our top priority as we continue to navigate through this public health emergency.
