March 7 Update from Mayor Tyer on Coronavirus

March 7 Update from Mayor Tyer on Coronavirus

You may have already heard that a patient at Berkshire Medical Center has a presumptive positive result for COVID-19 (coronavirus). I want to reassure you that I and the city’s preparedness planning team is working closely with local, state, and federal public health officials. As the situations evolves, we will follow the protocols specified by these public health officials. One new element here: please cooperate if you are contacted by a public health official. Containing the outbreak and providing medical care to those who need it the most depends upon “contact tracing” (who has been in contact with an infected patient).

In the meantime, please remain calm and stay informed by referring to reliable sources like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Massachusetts Department of Public. Both have comprehensive and updated information on their websites. Please continue to follow the protective measures that we’ve emphasized over the last two weeks. Also, Pittsfield families with school-aged children have received a message from the Superintendent of Schools. We will continue to provide you with updates as available.

Please visit out Corona virus page for new information.
