Information on the 2020 Municipal Firefighter Exam and related key dates is now available on the state’s civil service website, https://www.mass.gov/service-details/2020-municipal-firefighter-exam.
This examination is offered for all Fire Departments covered under Civil Service and may also be utilized by some non-civil service departments. The exam, which consists of two components a written test (50 percent) and an entry-level physical abilities test (ELPAT, 50 percent), is mandatory for anyone interested in becoming a Pittsfield firefighter. Applicants must pass both the written examination and the ELPAT to be placed on the eligibility list for appointment as a firefighter.
The examination fee is $200. The fee may be waived for candidates receiving certain state or federal public assistance or unemployment insurance. Fee waiver forms are available under the Applicant Forms section of the Civil Service website, www.MASS.GOV/CivilService.
Applications for the exam will be accepted until Feb. 4, 2020 without penalty. There is an additional $50 late fee for applications received after Feb. 4. Applications will not be accepted after Feb. 18.
The written examination will be administered March 21, 2020 in various locations across the state. After the written exam, applicants will be scheduled for their ELPAT and will receive information on the date and time.
