"Froio after Hours" Series Kicks Off With Cooking Event - Feb. 28

On Thursday, Feb. 28, the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center will kick off its new monthly programming series, “Froio after Hours,” with an interactive cooking event led by noted professional cook Anna Gershenson.

Executive Director James Clark said the series offers another way for seniors to be engaged at the center. The event will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m.

“We are excited to offer this new series. The purpose of the ‘Froio after Hours’ programming is to make the senior center more available to our seniors.  Many of them have other obligations during the daytime, so this new endeavor allows those seniors a chance to take advantage of the center at a later time that’s more convenient,” said Clark, who noted that series’ topics are timely and relate to seniors’ concerns. “Our first few classes will address nutrition, technology, and new offerings in the area of pain management. Future themes will be based on recommendations from the patrons of the Froio Center.”

February’s event will spotlight healthy eating with cooking demonstrations led by Gershenson, who is also the host of “The Natural Cook with Anna Gershenson,” on Pittsfield Community Television. Her recipes have been published in the Boston Globe and on the website, Food52.

In March, the theme will be “Seniors Talk Tech,” led by the city’s Information Technologist Scott Connors. The event, which will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, will focus on using smart devices.
