The Pittsfield Retirement Board ("Board") oversees the Pittsfield Retirement System ("System") which is responsible for administering the retirement benefits of its members, who are comprised of the employees of the City of Pittsfield, Pittsfield Housing Authority, and Pittsfield Economic Development Authority. The Board is governed by the provisions of M.G.L. c. 32 and 840 CMR 1.00 et seq., which are the rules and regulations promulgated by the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission ("PERAC"), which is the statutorily created oversight authority of the 105 public pension plans in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In its capacity as fiduciary, it is the mission of this Board to enforce the statutory and regulatory requirements of M.G.L. c. 32 and 840 CMR 1.00 et seq. such that each and every member of the System will receive the benefits as set forth therein and to which each member is entitled. The Board and its staff will make every effort to assist the System's members and beneficiaries in obtaining those benefits, while also safeguarding the System as a whole by insuring that all benefits are paid in conformance with the statutory and regulatory mandates and limitations.
