Q:  Does the Berkshire Athenaeum have computers available for public use?

A:  The Berkshire Athenaeum provides computers for Internet searching; online research; word processing; and other functions.  Printouts are available for a fee.

Library computers are available to library card holders in good standing, who use their library card to make a reservation with the onsite computer reservation station or by calling the Reference Department on (413) 499-9480 ext 202 during regular library hours.

Out of state residents who are not eligible for a free library card can request a reservation at the Reference Desk, where they will be required to present identification.


Q:  Does the Berkshire Athenaeum have public WIFI?

A:  The Berkshire Athenaeum offers free, high-speed (broadband) wireless Internet access to anyone with a PC or MAC notebook or other portable web-enabled device equipped with a wireless network interface card (NIC).  You can access the Internet from virtually anywhere in the Library itself or even just outside the building.

Q:  What is a “hold”?

A:  Holds are items that you have requested. You place holds on items that you request from other libraries so that they will be sent to you at your home library.  You also place holds on items that you would like to receive but which are not currently available because they are checked out.
