Q:  What are the duties of the City Planner and the Permitting Coordinator?

A:  The City Planner and Permitting Coordinator provide assistance and technical analysis in relation to planning, land use and zoning issues in the City.  The primary responsibility of both staff persons is to implement and manage the statutory provisions of State law pertaining to Zoning and Subdivisions within the City.  The City Planner is also responsible for overseeing the City's Master Plan document -- a comprehensive development guide for Pittsfield.  Please refer to the Planning and Development section of the Department of Community Development’s webpages for more information.


Q:  Does the City have a Permitting Guide?

A:  Please refer to the Permitting Guide section of the Department of Community Development’s webpages for a step-by-step guide is provided to aid the public with the often confusing task of permitting.  The Forms Guide is meant to assist the public with identifying the proper forms necessary for various projects within the Building Inspectors Department and Department of Community Development specifically.


Q:  Has the City had any long range planning projects?

A:  The City of Pittsfield has developed or participated in several long range planning projects.  Much of the City's current planning activities stem from the Master Plan, which was adopted in 2009.  Please refer to the Long Range Planning Projects section of the Department of Community Development’s webpages for more information.

Q:  Where can I get a copy of the City’s Master Plan?

A:  On April 7, 2009 the Community Development Board approved the City of Pittsfield Master Plan.  The Master Plan Executive Summary, Master Plan main text, and Master Plan Map can be found at the Master Plan section of the Department of Community Development’s webpages.  In addition, hard copies of the master plan can be viewed or purchased at City Hall, Room 205, 70 Allen Street.
